Oreo Pops

Since the renos have been a bit slower the last couple of days, I am going to take a break from blogging about the renos and blog about a new recipe I made a few weekends ago instead!

A few weeks back I saw a Google+ post on how to make oreo pops, which instantly caught my attention and got me to read more.   I discovered that it was ridiculously easy to make and with an upcoming BBQ to attend, I thought this would be the perfect little dessert to make.  I ended up getting a little ahead of myself, and bought all the ingredients like 2 weeks too early, but at least they were all there when I needed them! :P  When I did make them for the BBQ, they turned out pretty well. Everyone LOVED them, young and old!

To make these pops all you need is a box of oreos (I got the golden ones, as my husband is not a chocolate fan), one 8oz. package of cream cheese and 14oz. of chocolate chips or coloured candy wafers.  That`s it!! See simple :)

First you have to crush the oreos, John helped me with this by chopping them in our little food processor.  Then you mix the cream cheese with the oreos.  I did about two-thirds of the cream cheese and added a little bit more until I felt it was well mixed.  Then I rolled them into 1`` balls and John stuck the sticks in them.  I left them in the fridge overnight to harden, although I would suggest you don`t do that as it made the next step really hard.  The recipe said to put them in the fridge for an hour, I would suggest doing that.

The next morning I pulled the pops out, melted the candy wafers and set out some sprinkles to drip them in.  John made me a little stand to set them in, which I couldn`t end up using, as I will explain shortly...

Now as I started dipping them, I found that the majority of the pops started to slide down the stick.  At first I blamed the person who put the stick in them, but then he suggested that perhaps by putting them in for the fridge for the whole night, it caused them to shrink too much and less sticky.  I think that might have been the reason, along with the fact that they may have been too big.  I think I would make them a bit smaller of a ball if I ever did them again.  Either way, I couldn`t really use the nice stand John made me, but they still ended up turned out alright.  Here they all are.

I was able to get a few in that wouldn`t call, but in the end I
decided it wasn`t worth it.  I`ll save the stand for another time.

There you go, simple and easy (unless they end up sliding down the stick, then it becomes more challenging, but still not as challenging or time consuming as other desserts!).
