John thought that a garden idea would be good, with a fence around the outside and flowers on the top in groups. I ended up making some more flowers on Sunday, which I didn't take any pictures of, mainly because I realized that I need to take the course again because I have completely forgotten everything I was taught! I seem to be able to do them fine with the teacher walking us through them, but when it came to me just reading the instructions from the book, it was much much harder. Now to be fair, the teacher taught us how to make the flowers slightly different than in the book, but still, I had to make each flower at least twice :( Oh well, they turned out, as you will see.
Back to the class, we started off working with the fondant and colouring it (if we were colouring it) and then rolling it out on our mats in preparation for covering our cakes. We had to take the size of the pan we used, add the thickness and then add two more inches to get the size we needed to roll the fondant out to. In my case, I used a 9 inch pan, which was 2 inches thick, so 9+2+2+2=15 inches. I had a little trouble rolling my fondant out, as I had a bit too much and it was rolling off the mat, but I was able to get it to the correct thickness.
Once it was rolled out, we placed the fondant on the cake and trimmed it. I had a little bit of an issue on one side, as the fondant ripped a little bit, I think it was due to a combination of there being too much buttercream underneath and it been rather warm in the room. But it was okay, because my border mainly covered it.

After this, the teacher taught us some of the borders. I ended up just colouring some fondant and started making a fence for the edge. It took a lot of work, as a result, I ended up being the last one in the class, packing up to leave!

At this point, half the class was packing up, so I quickly got my flowers together and stuck them on. I liked how they looked on top, but John complained a bit because I was suppose to put them in groups of three. I just didn't feel there was room for it. Anyways, the cake turned out well, I like the look of fondant, it looks so professional! Here's a picture of the final product!
I took it to work and everyone loved it! They said it was my best one yet! Now I need to make one for John to take to work, that will likely be my project for later this month! Until next time...
